Sunshine on Piedmont Budget & Tax Review Meetings
A PCA Editorial urging increased online access and broadcast of important civic meetings
Piedmont is in the midst of making critical decisions on expenditures. Meetings are being held, yet not televised on KCOM, nor videotaped, and in some cases no minutes will be available. Meetings take place in venues other than the City Hall Council Chambers, while the Chambers are available. Due to the cost of videoing from other locations, only meetings held in the City Hall Council Chambers can be readily videotaped and broadcast.
The following is a list of recent and upcoming meetings that are not videotaped for viewing on KCOM or the City’s website:
- City Council Budget Workshop – May 21 – 9 am – Police Department Emergency Operations Center -403 Highland Avenue
- Capital Improvement Program Review Committee – May 10 – 7 pm – City Council Conference Room
- Municipal Tax Review Committee – April 27 , May 4, May 11, May 25, and continuing every other Wednesday night – Police Department Emergency Operations Center
With many residents interested in how Piedmont spends money, it would be helpful for budget and tax related meetings to be held in the Council Chambers where they can be readily videotaped, broadcast, and then posted online for easy access by residents, allowing increased participation by Piedmonters in governmental decisions.
