Workshops to Discuss Pool Issues – Jan 18 and February 15

Discussion of use changes, fee changes, and finances –

Hearings/workshops concerning the Piedmont pool facility will be held by the Piedmont Recreation Commission on Wednesday, January 18 and Wednesday, February 15, 2012.  Both hearings will be held at the City Council Chambers, 120 Vista Avenue, Piedmont and will begin at 7:30pm.

Discussion on January 18 will include:

  • recommendations for modifications to the pool use schedule
  • operations and improvements
  • pool use patterns

An issue will be the back-to-back use of the pool by the High School Swim Team and the Water Polo Teams on weekdays from 3 to 7:30 p.m.  Lap swimming and some recreational swim would be scheduled from 7:30pm to 9:00pm.  Other minor schedule changes will be covered.

Discussion on February 15 meeting will include:

  • proposed fee schedule for use including Passes and Gate Fees
  • financial report on pool operations
  • staff recommendations for the 2012 – 2013 budget

PUBLIC NOTICE

Notice is hereby given that the Piedmont Recreation Commission will hold two Public Hearings/Workshops regarding the operation of the Piedmont Community Pool which has been under the management of the City of Piedmont Recreation Department since July 1, 2011.

These hearings/workshops will be held on Wednesday, January 18 and Wednesday, February 15, 2012.  Both hearings will be held at the City Council Chambers, 120 Vista Avenue, Piedmont and will begin at 7:30pm.

The January 18 meeting agenda will include a brief overview of plant operations and improvements, pool use patterns and preliminary staff recommendations for some modifications to the pool use schedule.  The primary change being contemplated would

block exclusive pool use to Piedmont Swim Team and Piedmont High School Swim Team and Water Polo back to back on weekdays from approximately 3:00pm to 7:30pm. Lap swimming and some recreational swim would be scheduled from 7:30pm to 9:00pm.  Other minor schedule changes will be covered.  No final decisions or actions will be taken by the Recreation Commission at this meeting.

The February 15 meeting agenda will include a financial report on pool operations and staff recommendations for the 2012 – 2013 budget including a proposed fee schedule for use including Passes and Gate Fees.  Such a fee schedule will be subject to City Council approval upon a recommendation from the Recreation Commission.

Further meetings of the Recreation Commission will be scheduled based on public comment and at the discretion of the Commission.

Public Comment is invited and encouraged at these hearings, particularly from Pool Pass Holders and regular swim pool clients.   Written comments may be submitted to the Piedmont Recreation Commission in care of Dick Hunt, Chairman, 358 Hillside Avenue, Piedmont, CA., 94611.

A staff report for the January 18 meeting will be available for public review on the city web site (www.ci.piedmont.ca.us) by 5:00pm on Thursday, January 12.  Copies will also be available at the Recreation Department offices or the Pool offices.
