Voter Forum on City Parcel Tax, Candidates for State Senate, Environmental Measure: Thursday, April 29
The Piedmont League of Women Voters will hold a Voter’s Forum on Thursday, April 29, 2016, starting at 7:00 p.m. and ending at 9:20 p.m. in the Piedmont City Council Chambers, City Hall, 120 Vista Avenue.
The Forum will be broadcast live on KCOM-TV, Cable Channel 27 and from the Piedmont City website under videos.
Pros & Cons for Measure AA:
The first Forum item will be Measure AA, Alameda County SF Bay Clean Water, Pollution Prevention and Habitat Restoration Program Parcel Tax – The League of Women Voters of the Bay Area has endorsed Measure AA, the $12 per parcel tax that will be on the June, 2016 ballot in all nine Bay Area counties.
Candidates for State Senate District 9:
Next, All 4 candidates running to replace Loni Hancock, the current District 9 representative in California’s State Senate, who is terming out will present. District 9 covers a very broad swath of the East Bay, up and down the Bay’s coast, as well as some areas further east of the Bay. The four candidates competing to become our next State Senator, in a Top-2 Primary run-off on June 7th are:

- Nancy Skinner
- Sandre Swanson
- Katherine Welch
Candidates for Assembly:
- Tony Thurmond (incumbent)
- Claire Chiara
Pros & Cons of Measure F, Piedmont Parcel Tax:
At the end of the program is a Pro & Con presentation on Piedmont Measure F, the proposed 30% annual increase to Piedmont’s city parcel tax stated to maintain essential police, fire and paramedic service; to prevent the reduction in maintenance in City parks, greenspaces and other public areas; and to prevent the loss of youth, family and senior recreational and safety services. The Forum will be recorded for online viewing and re-broadcast prior to the Election Primary on June 7th. The Forum coincides with the mailing date of Mail-In Ballots, used by a majority of Piedmont voters.
There will be Q&A opportunities on each topic for live audience members as well as for TV viewers to submit questions electronically (instructions will be given on-air).
