Piedmont High School’s Chris Stevens is Back in the News

Former Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, killed in the attack on the United States Embassy in Benghazi was a graduate of Piedmont High School.  He has been honored by the Piedmont School District, which named the Piedmont High School library after him.

During the recent Republican Convention in Cleveland,  Stevens’ name was mentioned.  His mother, Mary F. Commanday, penned a Letter to the Editor of  The New York Times newspaper, and it was published in their July 22, 2016 edition.

Commanday’s letter read as follows:

“A Mother’s Complaint About a ‘Cynical Use’ of Benghazi”

“As Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens’s mother, I am writing to object to any mention of his name and death in Benghazi, Libya, by Donald Trump’s campaign and the Republican Party.

“I know for certain that Chris would not have wanted his name or memory used in that connection. I hope that there will be an immediate and permanent stop to this opportunistic and cynical use by the campaign.”
