Piedmont Community Pool Advisory Committee Meeting 11-29-22

One Response to “POOL: Operational Analysis, Costs, Revenue, Expenditures, Programs: Tues. Nov. 29, Pool Committee”

  1. Lots to digest in the report. Proposed fee schedule starts on page 100 – Appendix 4. From the table

“The family rates are only a 15% increase over an adult individual rate. This is very low compared to other facilities and norms. Usually a family pass or membership is a multiple of 1.6 to 1.75 of the equivalent adult rate. Should discuss the reasoning. With a couples pass may be time or rethink the family membership ratio.
Family Annual Pass include up to 10 people. This is very high based on norms and comp facilities. Should discuss.”

My recollection is that the annual/family multiple was always about 2:1 which kind of made sense. Annual members (lap swimmers, swim team/clubs) used the pool year round and most days of the week. Family membership was 6 months and many just used the pool for three months when school was out. The consultant is suggesting the multiple be flipped to 0.75 – families pay more than annual users. That should be discussed. The pool has been optimized for aquatics and that use should carry the bulk of costs. Certainly operating costs are driven by year-long operations.

The other public fee being proposed is the drop-in fee. $10 for residents currently and the consultant proposes that be raised to $12.50 for residents, $17.50 for non-residents. Not very inclusive for low income users. Comparable cities in the report have drop-in fees of $4-7.
