Piedmont’s Annual Harvest Festival ~ September 26, 2010 ~ 11:30 –3:30
On Sunday, September 26, Piedmont will once again celebrate our edible gardens with growing and cooking contests, a farmers market, scarecrows, jazz festival and more. All Piedmonters are encouraged to enter their most successful fresh produce. Cooked or preserved harvest edibles are eligible for the culinary contest. Produce and culinary items for judging should be delivered to the Community Hall, Main Park, on September 26 before 10 am.

After serving as Piedmont’s City Clerk since 1988, Ann Swift retires on Sept. 3. During a celebration in her honor at the Piedmont Community Center on August 26, Swift was greeted by a large crowd of well wishers and praised for her dedicated service to Piedmont over the past years. Former mayors, former and present City Council and School Board members, community volunteers, and City employees eagerly expressed their appreciation for the many ways Swift has served the City. Dr. Daniel Kammen spoke at a public forum in Piedmont on Thursday, September 16. Dr. Kammen, is Professor of Public Policy in the Goldman School of Public Policy and founder of the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory at UC Berkeley. He presented the big picture of the energy future facing our nation and the world. Following his slide-show presentation, a panel of representatives from Alameda StopWaste, PG&E, and the City of Piedmont focused on what individual homeowners can do to save energy at home, answering audience questions regarding energy efficiency, conservation, solar installations and green building/remodeling practices. The event was co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Piedmont and Piedmont CONNECT.

Piedmont’s pool was one of many pools shut down, based on a legislative change regarding drain covers. Alameda County has been closing “10 pools per week since July 1” because of the new regulations. Click to read more »
